Big Buddy Mentoring

Big Buddy: Building Friendships, Inspiring Futures

Big Buddy is a community-based mentoring program that creates meaningful connections between adult volunteers and children. In this mentoring program, one volunteer is matched with two children who share similar interests, personalities, and goals. These small group matches allow for dynamic, supportive relationships where participants can learn and grow together.

Mentors and their buddies meet weekly—or as often as schedules allow—for a few hours at a time. Whether it’s playing sports, exploring nature, working on a creative project, or simply spending time talking, each outing is an opportunity to build trust, have fun, and foster new skills. Activities take place out in the community, allowing youth to engage with the world around them and discover new interests in a safe and encouraging environment.

Volunteers are asked to commit to at least six months of mentoring, creating the consistency and stability that helps strong relationships flourish.

Big Buddy isn’t just about giving back. It’s about building relationships that can change lives. By sharing your time, you’re helping young people gain confidence, develop important life skills, and broaden their horizons. And as a mentor, you’ll gain just as much in return including laughter, connection, and the joy of seeing the world through young eyes.

“My daughter does not usually like doing things in large groups but will with her mentor. She is no longer missing out on fun activities that she used to because of being shy”

“I have always benefitted greatly from this organization. It has taught me how to better interact with youth and share in their joys and challenges as they grow up.  We have done many different activities together, the most important being spending time together and discussing the mentee’s concerns and challenges.”
