September 18th is Big Brothers Big Sisters Day! Across Canada we are celebrating the incredible impact of mentorship. From the skatepark to the boardroom, volunteering has the power to shape lives in ways we never imagined! As we reflect on the collective amazing impact of mentorship, we’re so filled with gratitude to offer a variety of BBBS programs in Prince Albert.
Youth face many challenges as they navigate through life, but they are more likely to grow up successfully when they experience developmental relationships with important people in their lives. Developmental relationships are close connections that provide young people with the opportunity to discover who they are, cultivate abilities to shape their own lives, and learn how to engage with and contribute to the world around them. The five elements of a developmental relationship – expressed care, challenge growth, provide support, share power, and expand possibilities – provide a framework for building strong and meaningful relationships with young people. By incorporating these elements into mentoring, our volunteers help youth discover who they are, cultivate their abilities, and help them dream of a brighter future. We thank each an every one of you who help us build developmental relationships for young people in Prince Albert. Happy Big Brothers Big Sisters Day!
